Define "awesome"...

Awesome.
DEFINITION: 6th years in Kincorth Academy.
Face it, we are awesome.

An Academy is only as good as the oldest year group, and in that aspect, Kincorth Academy is a brilliant school.

In every other aspect?

They crash and burn.
...
Is that an exploding cucumber?

I still need to write about yesterday, it was pretty awkward, because me and Sara had an exam, so we only went in for the first period. That and everything in our school has changed. Seriously, everything. It's not even changes for the better. It's changes that were attempted to make the school a better, more cost effective environment, but instead causes us all to burst out laughing instead. Fails are funny.

After I write yesterday's blog post, you'll understand why I no longer have all of my friends and Mrs Talboys as my registration teacher, but instead have only Linzie and pupils I do not know from various other years to keep me company, with Dr Robertson as our registration teacher.

Anyway, I feel very anti-social in that classroom.

Me and Linzie are sat up at the back, alone, and we don't speak to anyone else. In fact, we don't even know anyone else's name (bar Chloe and Callum). So I proposed to Linzie, a plan of action...
ME: I am going to learn one person's name, each day I am in this class!
LINZIE: Who is it today then?
The awkward thing is, I decided this was going to be the case during the register being taken, so it ended by the time Linzie asked that question.
ME: ... We'll start tomorrow.
But then, progress! Dr Robertson called one of the younger boys by his name...
ME: RORY!!
LINZIE: Rory?
ME: Uh.... Rory. Maybe Corey?
Linzie is going to take the register to the office tomorrow, so we'll be able to see whether or not it's Rory or Corey.

Call up Charlie Sheen, 'cause
that's what I call winning.

Also, me and Linzie are going to come to registration prepared from now on... armed with a dictionary.
BOYS IN FRONT OF US: *to Dr Robertson* What does philosophy mean?
DR ROBERTSON: Let's ask our experts!
They all turn to look at me and Linzie
LINZIE: Is that to do with Biology?

Calling Linzie an expert on Philosophy
is like calling this Toddler an expert in
the field of medical science.
Ill-judged and misinformed.
DR ROBERTSON: No... What about you, you do phil... oh no. It's Psychology.
Calling me an expert on Philosophy?

Nope. The only insight I could provide on the matter was this:
ME: A philosopher used to come to our school...
LINZIE: Wasn't he that minister?
ME: YES! Everybody hated him. He was saying things like "You should forgive the Nazi's"... You really shouldn't!!
At this point, Dr Robertson realised we were no experts on the matter.

And... casually wandered away.
ME: I'm taking a dictionary to school from now on.
STUDY

Best sight ever?

Seeing Megan carrying around a kettle, a bottle of water, milk, coffee and a container filled to the brim with splenda.

Or how about 60 pupils shoved into a fairly small room full of dangerous objects?!

Umm... not that dangerous.

Yes! ARGH!

I was going to say "Run for your life!" but it's about scissors and you should never run with scissors. Naughty child.

Seriously though, it was dangerous, Sara sat on them!!

Up to Mrs Murray room we went... where it was absolutely boiling, and over-crowded.

It's such a pathetic school.

We had to go to the library and get books to read (or in most cases, pretend to).

Ms Haggarty (the librarian) took an absolute fit.
MS HAGGARTY: Uhh... what are you doing?!
SOMEONE: Mrs Murray told us to come through.
There was thirty odd people in the library, waiting to check out book they had no intention of reading.
LAUREN: There's a queue to check out books!! *puzzled face*
FREE

It was amazing! A majority of 6th year just hung out there, planning on what types of appliances/games/food we could bring in to make our 6th year experience more enjoyable.

So far, our list includes:

  • Bean bags.
  • Candy-floss machine
  • Inflatable sofas
  • Slush puppy machine
  • Toaster
  • Mini-fridge
  • Microwave
  • Posters
That's just so far.

Chris has already started a smush pot (£3.50 in smush already!)

Megan's kettle allowed me and her to enjoy an incredibly tasty cup of coffee this morning.

We ended up walking around school with our mugs.
MR HUGHSON: Very sophisticated!
Haha, If you say so Hughesy!

I'm taking in an Argos book tomorrow so we can decide what we want.

Yeah. We're gonna make a shopping list.

DOUBLE ART

Laughing at Sophie and Danielle, love those two girly's, going to miss them.

Decided I am going to do retro jewellery, based on old toys, popular brands, pop culture and sweets.

So maybe... kitsch is a better word to describe it?

Looking forward to doing this though!

Everyone has cool ideas. Love Kelly's, innovative idea the best though...
KELLY: I'm going to do another headpiece...
ME: That's coo...
KELLY: Using Babies.

ME: Cool... how are you going to make the babies?! *realises what was just said* Uhh, what materials are you going to make the babies out of?!
DOUBLE ENGLISH

Sara, Dougal and I went to Grammar for our first ever Advanced Higher English lesson and guess what?

It was fairly awesome.

We only have four people in our class, us three, and a lovely girl called Susanna.. Suzanna? Susannah? Suzannah?

Whatever the spelling, phonetically, it is "Soo's-An-Ahh"

Also met a cutie called Charlie (apparently, her "real" name is Charlotte, I'm assuming we're okay on "Nickname basis") who showed us to our class.
DOUGAL: I hate Carol Ann Duffy.
SARA: Oooh... I really don't like her!
ME: Hold on... what has Carol ever done to you!?
DOUGAL: What, are you on first name basis with her now?!
Totally! Not quite like Dougal with Mary Shelley, to whom he's related.

Yeah. Dougal's related to Frankenstein's author.

That's not Mary by the way.

We went on a nice walk around school, we got away early and we were basically told that we would be drinking coffee a lot.

I love Advanced Higher English already.

We bumped into Mr Strudwick (Me and Dougal's old Computing teacher) at the reception. It was kind of awkward.
GRAMMAR MAN: This is our transport pupils from Kincorth...
*Mr Strudwick looks at us, me and Dougal wave*
MR STRUDWICK: Be sure to count everything!
Sorry, I forgot to mention that this:

Is our new school uniform.

Me and Sara love the English teacher though, she's really pretty!

Haha, Sara totally had hair envy.
SARA: I want to steal her hair and trousers!
Wait... maybe we SHOULD be wearing that new school uniform.

Wicked City

I watched Wicked City on DVD this afternoon, I guess the intention behind it was to shock, confront and maybe horrify but I found it boring, so very very boring.

Tremors

I've always had a soft spot for the horror / comedy Tremors, sure it's cheap and cheesy but I think it's a lot of fun.

I had previously seen the first sequel which I thought was OK but I'd never bothered seeing the two following movies in the series, as it happened a few weeks ago I was talking to a friend of mine about various science fiction TV series and he asked me if I'd seen Tremors: The Series and I had to admit I knew they'd made it but I hadn't seen an episode of the show.

Well I went home and looked to see what the series cost and found it was pretty cheap but I thought you can't own the series and not the movies so I ordered them as well.

Winter is settling in down under and I've found myself confronted with some very miserable weather lately so yesterday I sat down and watched all four of the Tremors movies, the original movie is still a lot of fun, the DVD release is just horrible ( I've since ordered the Blu-ray which is apparently an improvement ), at times you could be forgiven for thinking you were watching a bad VHS copy of the movie and the three sequels all received far better quality releases, while the first two sequels were just OK I really liked Tremors 4: The Legend Begins, in fact I'd nearly go so far as to say it was my favorite film in the series.

As far as B-Grade horror / comedy movies go the Tremors films are worth a look and I think now I'm ready to dive into the television series

Three sides don't make a triangle

Love those days where you meet someone you either:

a) Haven't spoken to in a long time.

b) Haven't really spoken to at all.

c) Haven't ever spoken to.

It reminds you that the people you know might be amazing, but there's another 6 billion people out there, just waiting for you to speak to them, just
waiting to be your friend.

So, in that aspect, Wednesday ruled!

However, I had an exam and it didn't go that great...

Which I am majorly annoyed about. If you ask me any question from the past papers, I'd get it straight away! The questions were the things I didn't really
revise.... so annoying.

However, that being said, I got to go out to see Francesqa at night with
Kristina, Jan and Erin.

Kristina asked me not to let her drink, because she had an exam the next day.

She seemed to forget this about five minutes into the night:
KRISTINA: One drink! Just one little drink...
ME: NO! Or I will pancake you!
KRISTINA: I haven't eaten much today... I would quite like a pancake.

You don't want one of Kevin's pancakes. They hurt.

Kristina ís one hilarious kiddy, she was telling me about the fourth year who calls her "Christina Aguillera"
KRISTINA: I am Christina Aguillera! I'm just not as pretty and I can't sing. *hangs head in shame*
Bumped into one of my friends, Sam, and her friend, Louise, at Cafe Drummonds, when we were trying to get inside the venue.

Gave her a big hug. Sam is such a cool kid. She loves Autumn in Disguise, which is the band that were playing first.

Have a listen! They were awesome supporting Francesqa!

Although, their guitarist, David, was a bit of a nutcase.

In the most amazing way!

He stage dived, mid riff, into the crowd.

The crowd thought "f**k that" and moved to the side.

Like this. But more a fail because the only thing that
was catching him was the ground.

Stage diving:

Expectations: You will float majestically above the crowd like a rock God.

Reality: No-one is catching you other than the floor.

Got to point out (for no reason at all really) that the floors in Cafe Drummonds are incredibly sticky.

I do not know why, I do not want to know why. I just know that they are.

It really doesn't help when you go into the bathrooms and see "Best night ever" scrawled on the bathroom wall.
ME: I seriously hope that was written because of the music and not because of something that happened in that bathroom stall...
That was everyone's reactions Whoopi.

On a less disturbing note, I got to meet my Paramore fan club buddy, Steve!!

Steve is a lovely guy, with a great taste in music. He played a game with Kristina, Jan and Erin called "guess my age".
STEVE: I'll give you a clue, my first concert was in 1970. Black Sabbath.
ME: Not a bad first concert to go to!
STEVE: And I wasn't three when I went either!
ME: You'd be a little rocking baby if you were!!
KRISTINA: Just rocking the pram, back and fourth to the sound of Black Sabbath.
STEVE: This was when Ozzy Osbourne was still sane!
ME: Ozzy Osbourne was once sane?!
I convinced someone I could play the electric triangle on Wednesday. Felt like a legend, haha!

It has been decided that triangles are taken for granted in the world of rock, so we are going to make up a four person triangle band called "Three sides don't make a triangle".

Awww yeah!

Some girl (drunk out of her mind like) tried to crowd surf.

It went well until you could see the audience losing the will to carry her and slowly she began to tilt to 45 degrees until... thud. Another one on the floor.

Seriously people, don't crowd surf at Cafe Drummonds!

Kristina fell in love with Steve's life motto:
"When you stop you stop for good , so never stop just keep on going!"
One: I don't think that's his life motto... but that is his mentality and it ROCKS. Why let age dictate what music you listen to? Or what bands you can perform live? Remain young in spirit, because your body gets older everyday, and remaining young in spirit is the only way to hold onto your youth.

Two: Even if that was Steve's life motto, or what he said to us... I think we murdered it... haha! We should have wrote it down!

Steve, if you are reading this, it was lovely getting to meet and chat with you, and I hope you had an amazing time at We are the in crowd tonight!

Qweeek

I am sitting Highers.
I can get a job.
I can drive.
I am Seventeen years old!

And yet, I still laugh at a door squeaking.

Age is but a number. Your real age, the one that actually makes a difference when it comes to living life and living an existence, is all in your head. It is a mentality, rather than a number.

Nice to see that I have the mental age of a three year old then.

(NOTE: Three year olds are actually pretty intelligent, so don’t go underestimating them)

Higher Art exam date…

We were so scared, our hair
changed colour.

I would have been more prepared for it if only I… prepared for it.

Seriously, an hour yesterday, six hours today, that’s all I’ve done since February in terms of art revision.

“Pffft, it’s fine! It’s just art.”

Just art? JUST ART?!

The most stressed I have been all year was as a result of art. I had a nervous breakdown because of that damn folio.

You have to remember countless pieces of information. E.g. The iPhone 4 has a 3.5 inch touch screen with a 326 pixels per inch resolution. It is a 960x640 backlit LCD screen, coated in a specially engineered glass that is designed to be 30x more stronger than plastic.

Yes. That was from memory. Can’t get it out of my head at all! It’s gonna be one of those “facts for life” things.

You have to time your essays perfectly during the exam. An hour and a half to write two short pieces on a still life and some sort of design that you have never seen before and two full length essays on two designers and two still life artists. My hand is so sore!

So it’s not “just art”. It’s the source of a huge majority of my stress this year!!

The morning was spent solely revising, eating toast and watching Bones. Anyone watched it yet? I was in floods. Love it when Brennan is vulnerable.

That sounds really evil, doesn’t it?

Somehow, I managed to retain all of the necessary information for the exam in less than seven hours. A whole years course. In less than seven hours. I do not recommend it!

Met up with Hayleigh and Sara, I swear we were getting shouted out by a ferbie… But no-one/nothing was there… spooky.

Seriously, no child, adult, cat, dog or ferbie was around! Just a random noise.

Liam and I are going to create an atypical zombie movie. It’s going to be sit in sunlight. Because it’s never a sunny day in zombie movies. Come on Hollywood, even Zombies like to sunbathe!

Getting bored and hot, (yes, hot. In Scotland! I know, I can‘t believe it either) Liam decided he wanted to go and sit inside. So we sat inside, and laughed at a door because it would slowly close and then make the most amusing squeak I have ever heard.

“Qweek.”

It was around fifteen times we listened to that squeak before we could hear it without bursting into laughter.

So glad it wasn’t the door to the exam hall… there’s no way I’d be able to remain quiet!

Kelly came in with a new hair colour… very nice but wow. So dark!!

Kati was sitting in front of me, and she spent a solid five minutes trying to attract Mr Rae’s attention.
Hrrpmh.
Nothing.
*moves chair and taps pen*
Nothing.
Pretty sure she could have stood up, completed the Macarena with a tea cosy tied around her head and Mr Rae still wouldn’t notice her…

How rude of me, I forgot to mention that Mr Rae was meant to be invigilating the exam.

I could have went into that exam “Memento” style,  body absolutely covered, head to toes in information, and Mr Rae wouldn’t have noticed!

This is how Leonard passed exams.

Everyone’s finished exams now, apart from the Psychology, Sociology and Computing crowd… It sucks! It must really suck for the Sociology crew though, we go back on the 6th (my exam, boo!) but finish on the 10th… So I think they are disadvantaged by that! It’s a shame :(

My inspirations: Pink

Time to unmasked June's inspiration....

You might have heard of a woman called Alecia Beth Moore...

But you probably know her better as the kick ass popstar, Pink.

Typical popstars are almost guaranteed NOT to feature in these types of posts. They conform to everything: The way the world expects them to dress, the music their fans want them to hear, what the public want to hear them say... They wouldn't hesitate to be air brushed, or to strip to the bone for some publicity, or to release a song merely because they know it will get good airplay, despite it's complete lack of depth or meaning...

So it's a good thing that Pink is not your typical popstar.

She's without a doubt, a strong woman, who is not swayed to be anyone else but herself, despite the fame, fortune, success and the ever watching eye of the media that encourages so many others in her position to adopt a public persona.

Pink's personality is clear in every single thing she does, whether it's a music video, a song, an interview or a tweet. The most iconic display of her "I don't give a f**k!" attitude is probably in her video for So What. The world embraced Pink's funloving, rocker self and she was rewarded with a worldwide number one, hit single among countless other awards and nominations. Her latest album, "Funhouse", features some of the rawest songs that Pink has ever sung, her creative energies fueled by her split from then ex-Husband Cary Hart. Songs such as "I don't believe you" and "Mean" are evidently written by someone with a broken heart.

The good news? They didn't stay split for long.

Now, they are back together, as strong as ever and Pink is expecting a baby in the very near future. Although, becoming pregnant wasn't easy...
ELLEN DEGENERES: Was this planned?
PINK: I worked for it.
And, in the same interview, she revealed why she was so hesitant to reveal her pregnancy straight away:
PINK: I have had a miscarriage before....
It's one of the things that so many women experience in their lives yet no-one ever talks about. I can't imagine what it feels like, to lose the life that is growing inside of you before it even had a chance to live... I respect Pink so much for bringing it up, even if it was just commenting that it is a hardship that she has dealt with in her life, as once again, fans can relate to Pink on a more personal level, rather than the false relationship that 90% of other celebrities share with their fans.

But one thing that very few people can relate to is Pink's seemingly endless willingness to give.

A dedicated PETA campaigner, Pink has a real desire to lend her beautiful voice to those who cannot speak, animals. Not phased by anyone's social stature, she has written scathing letters to the likes of Prince William, criticizing him for hunting Foxes and expressing her concern over the use of real fur in the bearskins of the Royal Guards to the likes of the Queen. She also works with charities such as UNICEF, Save the children, World Society for the protection of animals, Take back the Night and the Human Rights campaign as well as donating $250,000 of her own money to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal.

It's only after reading the list of Pink's humanitarian causes that we can truly appreciate how fantastic this woman is, and how selfish the majority of us are in comparison. When was the last time you gave money to charity? Or helped someone in a rough situation out? What have you done, or achieved today that has made you proud of yourself? Pink may be able to donate sizable sums of money that we, as "normal" people simply cannot afford, but time and dedication is something that you cannot put a price upon, and these two things are just as important as the money when it comes to charity... so what's our excuse for not lending our hand to at least one good cause?

And of course, the inspirational quality that I admire the most in people: Their eagerness to spread the word on individuality.

Let's face the facts: Pink has always been a little "out there" (And I mean that in the most loving, respectful way possible). Her outfits have ranged from timeless classics to unique outfits, designed specifically for her, to plain and simple, "chilling out" clothes. Pink looks amazing in all of them and do you know why?

Apart from being an all round gorgeous girl, she wears her clothes with confidence and, as I've said before, anything worn with confidence is beautiful.
"Break every stereotype you can think of! challenge anybody! No matter how old, stand up for what you believe in! Love yourself, appreciate what you have....cry a lot cause it helps!"
Pink's music and wise words have not become another meaningless symbol of pop culture, but rather a constant reminder to her millions of dedicated fans that their uniqueness is what makes them beautiful and that life always gets better.

It always does, but we all need a reminder of that from time to time.

Lauren xxx

P.S. Previously did a blog post that was solely on her bravery for putting out the video for "F*ckin' perfect", that ties in with this post, as I don't think you can truly appreciate her as one of the only brave, innovative artists in the music industry of today until you watch it.

Dirt 3 - Very Disappointing !

Last week I bought the much anticipated Dirt 3 on PS3, and while it's a fantastic looking game the game play is pretty uninspired, it's really just more of the same and while the multi player part of the game looks like it might be fun over the short term I think it's something I would quickly get sick of.

What I really don't like about this game is the requirement to register the game online to access some of the offline single player content, this is simply about greed, for some time now game publishers have been looking for a way the get a piece of the second hand game market.

I'm sort of OK with them wanting you to register your game to play online and if you've bought a second hand copy of a game paying a minimal fee for a new registration key to play online but it pissed me off to no end to have bought a new full priced copy of a game and constantly be told I couldn't use certain cars in some events because I hadn't registered my game and at the time I couldn't register it because the PlayStation network was down but what if you don't have an Internet connection or don't want to play online ?, you still pay the same price but don't get all the features the person who has his PlayStation ( or X-Box 360 ) connected to the Internet - this seems to me to be rather unfair.

I will be returning my copy of Dirt 3 tomorrow and in the future I will no longer be buying any console games that require online registration, this isn't about piracy or providing a better service to the consumer, it's about greed and I'm not going to be part of this latest type of scam.
