I Love Scifi & Fantasy

So I was listening to one of my favorite podcast Turning into Sci Fi TV this morning and they mentioned something about why they love Sci fi and it got me thinking. So I posed this question on Facebook and Twitter, "SciFi & Fantasy lovers, Do you enjoy it because you can escape into their world or escape from this world?"

Well I got several responses and most of them said it depends on the story but both can be true. And I agree with that. I love scifi and fantasy for the fact that I can escape into these magical world. Now I did get a few comments about how escaping into a scifi and fantasy world to escape this world is not a healthy thing and I have to say that I don't agree with that. I think there are times when you need to escape this world and scifi and fantasy is the perfect way to do that. I don't find it unhealthy wanting to get away from the woes of the world and travel to another world or universe.

But what do you think? Do you enjoy it because you can escape into their world or escape from this world?

Dust!!

Well a few of us here have had our eyes on Dust for quite while now.  We dove in and purchased a First Edition Dust Tactics starter box.  They have been sitting on my shelf of mini's for quite awhile now.

With the release of Dust Warfare not too long ago, are interest was piqued just a bit... then it fell away again.

Then one day not too long ago my buddy scotty decided to throw some paint on one of his American Walkers From that point on I decided I oughta give it a go as well.

I decided that this game due to its bendy plastic figures would be my mindless painting army.  Essentially I would paint the troops up really quickly using basecoats, shades, and one highlight to finish up.

With the walkers I would begin practicing with my newly acquired airbrush, and try some different weathering techniques.

The whole goal of this project... Get stuff painted quickly!

So here are a few pics:

More pics when ya click!

Walker number 2:

Kommandotrup (this was the first unit I painted tried to paint without priming... BAD IDEA, although Dust claims they are pre-primed minis... PRIME THEM or else you'll be glopping thick nasty paint all over your figs)

Battlegrenadiers: Busted these guys out during one of our GG paint nights...  Really quick and easy.  I remembered to prime these guys :)

The last unit I busted out was the Recon Grenadiers think I finally have the process down, I busted these guys out in just over an hour.

Still have the basing to finish.  Also have a unit of Lasgrenadiers, and the Hero chick from the starter box.

Should be having a quick playtest this friday.  Pretty stoked for that.

Stay tuned.

Thanks for watching,

Felicia Day on Supernatural

So I finally had some free time and watched my friend Felicia in the latest episode of Supernatural. She appeared last season as Charlie and won over everyone so they asked her back for another episode.

I watched the first season of Supernatural but haven't seen it since. Lucky for me the Felicia stories tend to be stand alone episodes and you really don't need to know to much background on the on going story.

Again with this episode you didn't have to know much of the on going story, which is great. This episode is called LARPing and the Real Girl. The boys investigate some mysterious deaths, which leads them to a LARPing community and guess who is their Queen.. yep, the real Queen of geek Felicia Day. I have always wanted to LARP and will one of these days. But it was a fun look into this world. It was awesome seeing Dean go all geek and really get into the LARPing. Felicia's character of Charlie was just as great as she was in the first time. She's the perfect geek and very likable, as are most of Felicia's characters. I heard a rumor that she'll be coming back for a third time later this season.. I can't wait. Great job Felicia!!!

Like Coffee Mug(^▽^)/\(^▽^)

Another year. Another new mug.

You are probably thinking why I'm blogging about a mug... Well, 1. It's a present from Mr Bear and, 2. He knows that I'm one of the biggest social networkers he knows in the office! (He's more social than me outside work).
My new coffee mug :D

Read the description!! ^^

I'm always networking between family and friends inside and outside of work. I'm always deprived of sleep. Only joking! I get loads of sleep (when I can), but I do socialise a lot (it's the only way I can get gossip ¬_¬"")!!

Hah! This mug describes me a lot. I like coffee and I like networking. My real job involves a lot of networking between different organisations too...!! So many emails. So many phone calls. So much talking involved. And so many meetings. :P ... Heheheh... I need a quiet job...
Coffee M
The social networking mug for the ultimate social networking geek!! ^_^

p.s. I'm not on Facebook. I deleted that account a few months ago because I was getting no likeys :( ...

Rockness: confirmed acts and dream line-up

Happy to announce that this year's Rockness will mark my first ever festival.

It seems to odd to think that I've never been to one before, considering how much I love live music.

But I digress.

Today marks the first announcement in terms of Rockness 2013's lineup.

Confirmed acts:
  • Example
  • Basement Jaxx
  • Madness
  • Ben Howard
  • Bombay Bicycle Club
  • The Vaccines
  • Ellie Goulding
  • Newton Faulkner
  • The Maccabees
  • Jessie Ware
  • Camera Obscura
Obviously, this is only the first of several announcements. So I thought I'd put my thinking headphones and come up with a list of bands and artists who I'd loved to see playing at the festival.

I've tried to be as realistic with my list, even though I've added a few less likely ones too:
  • Biffy Clyro
  • Bastille
  • Young Guns
  • Deaf Havana
  • Emeli Sande
  • Twin Atlantic
  • Fatherson
  • Make Sparks
  • Kassidy
  • Tom Odell
  • Dog is Dead
  • Kodaline
  • Alt-J
  • Two Door Cinema Club
  • Calvin Harris
  • MMX
  • Ed Sheeran
  • Mallory Knox
  • AWOLNATION
  • Rudimental
  • Nina Nesbitt
Rockness also released this statement:
"We've got many more bands and DJ's still to announce, plus another very special headliner, so stay tuned"
Who do you think the very special headliner is?

IKRPG Night...

This last Saturday we had a paint night and IKRPG event at Endzone. Well it really turned into just an RPG night. There was only one person who showed up to paint... me. Anyway I thought I would snap some pictures of the party that was going on. They looked like they were having a blast. I bailed early to go and watch the UFC fights. Grim and Scotty showed up for a moment then left.

Cheers,
John...

Car Rentals and Good News??

So I was up at 6:30am, though I couldn't call the car rental place until 8am. So I jumped on the computer and started editing my next Knights of the Guild podcast. At 8am I called Enterprise and told them that I had a reservation today and that I needed to be picked up. They asked where I live and I told them. They then said.. "oh we don't pick up from that city". I said excuse me? It's only 10 miles and you are the closest one to me. The apologized but said they could not pick me up. I said okay I guess you don't want my business I'll see if I can find another car rental place and hung up. I called around to Hertz, Avis and other rental places and they all said they don't do picks up, so I'm back to square one. Sometimes living in a very rural area can be a huge negative. Well around 9:30 my phone rings and it's Enterprise saying, "oh I have a driver coming in at 11am, I can send him then if that works for you". I was desperate and said yep that would be great.

I had about an hour and a half to kill so I continued working on my next Knights of the Guild podcast until my avid started acting up again and finally just stopped working all together.. gonna have to try and figure out this problem soon.

First favorite color - Lime Squeeze
While I waited I emailed several friends to see if they wanted to go car shopping with me this weekend but unfortunately one is going to be out to town and the other might have plans with a lady he is pursuing. I then remembered that my former boss over at High Noon, Stephen mentioned that he'd go with me to get a new car as he's the king of hagglers. So I emailed him and he was available and willing to help me out. We talked and discussed what kind of car I wanted and all I know is I want great gas mileage but it can't be more then $15,000. I was thinking used (only a few years) but he actually convinced me that I should go new as you get a better finance percentage rate (0 to 1%) and in the long run you play less for the car. He also mentioned that I should be looking at a Ford Fiesta as they are great on mileage (almost 40 miles to the gallon), they are very reliable, tiny and the look very sporty now. So I check it out online and I have to say I am impressed. They also are priced right between $13,000 and $17,000. Oh and they have really awesome colors.. so I think this might be my next car.

So 11am came and I didn't get a call.. I called them at 11:15am and they said oh the guy is just now leaving he should be there shortly. He arrived around noon (it should have taken him only 20 minutes, but I guess he got lost). Anyways it's noon and I'm finally on my way to rent my car.

I get there and of course they didn't have the car I requested (economy), but instead they had a mid-size car (which is two levels up from what I wanted). He said it would normally be about $35 more a day for this car but he would only charge me $2 (so generous of them). I really didn't care as I just wanted to get out of there and get to work.  So I signed the paperwork and headed to work. I stopped by Wienerschnitzel and grabbed some lunch while I drove into work.

Second favorite color - Ruby Red
Once at work it took a few hours just to catch up on everything. But while I was working my friend Joyce contacted me over Facebook and asked if I was going to get a Ford vehicle.  I said I was really considering it and then she said that her Dad is a retired Ford employee and that the employees of Ford get a limited amount of what they call X and Z plans (a kind of employee discount for friends and family). She offered to talk to her dad to see if he would help me out. And guess what.. he is. I talked to him over the phone and gave him some personal information that he needed to to apply for a X plan. I gave him all the info and he said he will contact me tomorrow with my "pin" number that I take to the dealer for the discount (I don't know what kind of discount but he did say it's below what the dealers pay for it), there is also no haggling on the price, it is what it is, no less, no more.  I can also get any other incentives that are offered as well. I was super excited and this kind of sealed the deal that I will be getting a brand new 2013 Ford Fiesta SE Hatchback. This will be the first time in my entire life that I have purchased a brand new car.. I can't wait until this weekend. Thanks Joyce for offering me this fantastic discount and thanks to you Dad Art for making it happen.

So what started as a horrible day and what has been a few rough weeks it looks like things are finally turning around. Of course now that I have said that I have jinxed it all and things will fall apart.. luckily for me I don't believe in things like that. :)

Comic Con Tixs & Jeep Woes

So San Diego Comic Con Professional tickets when on sale today at 10am and by 10:15 when I ordered mine they were out of complementary guest tickets. First time in the nine years that I have gone that they ran out that quickly. Of course I could still buy an extra guest pass for $175, which I did but that really screwed up my plans. I normally give my free complementary guest pass to my brother and then buy the extra for my buddy Chris. Well now I had to buy the extra one for my brother and then go to the interwebs to find someone how might be willing to buy their extra one for Chris.. lucky my friend Teresa was more then happy to help out so in the end I got the tickets I intended on getting for me, my brother and Chris.

How much you want to bet that they cut the amount of "free" guest passes and increased the amount of "paid" guest passes for professionals. I remember back in the day when I got my "free" pass and my guest "free" pass and then was able to purchase 4 more guest passes for the low low price of only $25. They have slowed removed the paid guest passes as well as raised the prices to "regular" price. I guess I really can't complain.. at least I'm still able to get my pass for free... but I wonder how much longer that will be.

Work was fine.. crazy busy but I've come to expect that.

When work was over I went to the parking lot and got into my Jeep. When I turned it on there was this strange sound coming from the engine.  I pulled out of the parking lot and as I accelerated the sounds got louder and with a higher pitch. Something was wrong with my Jeep.

As you know if you're a regular reader of my blog I have been having Jeep problems for some time now and even went car shopping earlier this year. Well I think the time has come to retire the Jeep for good. My buddy Chris kept me company on the phone as I slowly made my way home hoping that my jeep would not die in the middle of the freeway.. it was a very long hour but I did manage to limp home. The Jeep was making such a horrible noise as I turned it off, I gave her a pat on the dashboard and thanked her for the many years of enjoyment.

I went inside, jumped on the computer and made a reservation with Enterprise rent-a-car. Will see what tomorrow holds.

Legacy

A week or so ago I read a blog post by Epic Insanity about what his legacy would be. His post was based on a twitter question of a friend of his. Epic's post really hit a chord with me (read it here http://epicinsanity.com/2013/01/18/food-for-thought-legacy/ ). Especially the separation he keeps in his own life. As I have shared previously I do the same thing. Most people that know me in my "real" life do not know I game or the extent that I do. Or how much geek culture I know thanks to my husband and others. Most of my friends would think I lost my mind if they knew I offered to give my hubby Oomaxs (he hit the floor laughing, apparently he assumed I was not paying attention to all the DS9 he was making me watch.) But as usual I am rambling from the point.

What would happen if I died tomorrow? Would I be happy with what I leave behind? Hell no! I do not have enough life insurance for that. I have 2 little kids! I need to get them raised up and responsible and stuff! I want more than anything to be real and authentic with everyone I deal with. If I am in guild chat and talking to my WoW friends I want to be me. I expect and behave the same with my family and friends. The legacy I hope to leave behind is kindness, and acceptance of others. I know this sounds all warm and fuzzy, but I really feel this way. I want a solid future for my minions, and I want to make a difference in people’s lives. I am in graduate school to be a career counselor, and I have been in that field for over 7 years. I am passionate about education and employment.

The question for me I guess has become; if I am hiding something that really is big part of my identity am I living up to my own expectations of who I am and who I want to be? I say I am honest and authentic, but if I hold a part of me back then I am by definition betraying who I am. This would invalidate my legacy. As I think through this I really think my starting this blog and sharing my ideas here and on twitter is my reaching out to test my true identity, and to become ok with it. Once I am ok and accepting of myself I will be ok owning my whole identity, which builds my legacy. I want to be a great role model for my girls; I want them to be confident, aware of the world, and comfortable with themselves. To be confident we have to love ourselves first. The more I own all of my traits and interests the more I am able to love and accept myself.

So to bring my rambling to a close, I know what I want my legacy to be. I am not there yet I need more work so I better not be going anywhere. I know I am not the only one who goes through this. Tell me about it, leave a comment or follow me on twitter @Jaygurrl.

Peace and Love

IMC Prize - Wrong Eye and Snapjaw

Here is what I have decided to do. I went to pick up the piggy's but no such luck. So I got the next in line of what I was planning on doing. This is one of the prizes that will be given away at the up coming I.M.C. event.  I have plans to incorporate our logo into the paint job. Should be fun. I would tell you how but then there would be no reason for you to stay tuned.

Cheers,

Podcasts and Family

Since I didn't get much podcasting done yesterday I was up once again fairly early at 7am. With MASH 4077 finally done and upload I moved onto my next podcast My Gimpy Life. I chose this one next as it's really quick and easy... I hope.

I strung it out.. added a few bells and whistles and though I'm still having avid issues I manage to get this podcast done in an hour. Next was a Knights of the Guild podcast. I'm a week or two behind with this podcast and I really want to get a new episode out ASAP. So I opened Avid and realized that I haven't imported any of the Season six audio (which is what I need to start editing with) and there is a lot. I spent about an hour uploading a ton of audio to the Avid. By the time it was done I had to get ready to head out to my brothers.. was going to be visiting family. I haven't seen them since before Christmas.. which is way to long.

It was a nice visit, I got to have lunch with my Dad, then hang with my sister-in-law and my niece and nephew before heading upstairs to watch several episodes of Alien Nation and then record two podcasts with my brother. Alien Nation already had missed a month (January) and I didn't want to miss another one. The podcasts are gonna be two of our best. My brother and I really click anyways when we podcast but these two episodes we did so even more. It was alot of fun.

Finally got home around 10:30pm and was spent. I tried to work on my KOTG podcast but avid insisted on being a pain in the butt, so instead I jumped on LOTRO and played a bit to unwind.

So out of the five podcasts that I wanted to get done this weekend I manage to get only two. Hopefully I won't be too tired after work this coming week to finish the rest.

Old Witch of Khador

Finished this one up as a commission for a local. It just so happens to be the third time I have painted this duo, so I cant say I was terribly enthused about it. But I pushed through(eventually) and got em done.

 More pics after the jump.......

You may have noticed that the crows are missing from Scrapjack......Well, in moment of what I thought was clarity, I decided to leave them off for ease of handling while painting. The first times I had painted these, I glued them on and tried to work around them, which lead to headaches of knocking them off constantly and slathering the wrong colors of paint on them with an errant brush stroke.

This time however, I did not glue them on and apparently lost them in the jungle of a mess called my paint room! The search continues!

Thanks for checking these out, let me know what you think!

Curry Garden - London Surrey Quays

What? Another Surrey Quays restaurant? Yeah why not, I love, love, love curry!

I was at Miss Pinky's yesterday with Master H trying to relax but I also had to look at one of her assignments (I got a big headache in the end), she also got herself a goldfish (also called Pinky), which we almost killed because the bag it was in suddenly dropped onto the floor. I am now a godmother / auntie to a goldfish ¬_¬". Thanks Miss Pinky.

We actually all had a hearty meal at KFC earlier (I had no idea they changed the way they served - it's pretty cool!) and I wasn't hungry until quite late yesterday evening. Miss Pinky was craving for Indian food for a month! Hahahah, so we ended up in Curry Garden, which is also on Lower Road in Surrey Quays. She's been in there before, and it was the first time for me so I had to try it out!

Inside Curry Garden

Napkins were folded nicely
Now I'm going to stop talking and show you the pictures (sorry they're not good but my battery was very low, so the flash had to be switched off).

We both had this starter, a sheek kebab (one each, because I didn't order a starter)...
Sheek Kebab - this is Miss Pinky's... I forgot to take a picture...
Miss Pinky had the lamb daghini with boiled rice. This isn't very spicy. So if you like curry, but only prefer very mild spices, try this one out.
All the food

Lamb daghini
I had the chicken jalfrezi with pilau rice. This is a spicy dish and I like it! I chewed on one of the chillies and mouth was burning, so Miss Pinky ordered a G&T for me to lower the heat in my mouth (she didn't want to part with her Cobra beer)! Extremely hot!
Chicken jalfrezi

Pilau rice
Miss Pinky and I really enjoyed ourselves at this restaurant. A group of ladies who were there had a funny conversation with a couple of the waiters! And we couldn't help listening in. ^_^ The waiters are very East London like (if you have watched Eastenders, you will know what I mean).

Total cost came to £27.10. Really worth it for 2 people!

My geeky rating: 5/5

Good points:
- Friendly and funny service
- Great food
- Reasonable pricing
- Not many customers at the time we went, so we had loads of time to spend in there without being rushed!

Bad points:
- Can't think of any - but I would definitely go for more!!!

Here's Miss Pinky's gold fish Pinky by the way... It survived!

And here's my KFC!! ^^ So filling!

Screener, Avid Issues & Friends

Today started with podcasting.. I have a ton of podcasts that I need to get edited and out. I have fallen a bit behind due to this new job and just trying to rearrange my free time. So I was up early 7am. I swore I wasn't going to watch any TV or jump on LOTRO until I got some of these podcasts done. I have to finish a MASH 4077 podcast, Confessions of a Fanboy podcast, Alien Nation podcast, My Gimpy Life podcast and a Knights of the Guild podcast.

I started with my MASH 4077 podcast as that podcast has been released on time since we started almost two years ago. My others can vary though I do try and release on a regular schedule. As I am an avid podcast listener as well and enjoy when my podcasts come out on a regular bases.

I worked on MASH for about two hours and then had to get dressed and head over to UPS to pick up a package that I had to sign for so it couldn't be left at my house. The closest distribution to my place is in Sylmar, which is about 40 miles south. So I made the trek down there. I didn't have a clue what was sent to me. When I got there an editor friend of mine was there as well and said "Oh you're here for the Life of Pi screener as well" And sure enough I opened the package and there it was. I've never gotten a screener so late in the award season. I mean the PGA Awards (which I vote for) were going to happen the next day and I had already voted a month prior. Now I'm not complaining about getting the screener as this was one of those movies that I was hoping to see. It's just unfortunate that it came so late.

Before I left for UPS I started to upload the MASH episode that I needed for the podcast I was working on. It can take a few hours to upload so I figured by the time I was home the upload should be done. Well when I got home I noticed a error on my screen. The upload didn't work and I had to start over again. Now when I upload I can't do anything else on the computer so I started the upload again and had a few hours to kill while it uploaded. Though I swore I wouldn't watch TV there really wasn't anything else I could do so I popped on the TV and watched some recorded shows off my DVR.

Two hours later the upload finishes and guess what.. my Avid crashes and I lose everything.. again. I normally upload video and audio of the episodes though I only use the audio.. I like having a visual reference. Well screw that I stripped away the video and started to upload only the audio. Now this only takes about 15 minutes which is much better then 2 hours.

I continue my work on the MASH podcast.. it's now 3pm and I have dinner plans at 5 which means I have to leave my house at 4. For the next hour my avid gave me nothing but problems. It was a very slow process and by the time 4 came around I was about 2/3'ds of the way done. So much for flying through these podcasts.

I went over to my friends John and Moises house for dinner. Joining them were the usual bunch. Tom and Ervin, Bruce, Martin and of course me. They've had this dinner party for years. I don't get to see these guys as much as I use to and I miss that. I don't know why we don't hang out more but I need to make a bigger effort in seeing these guys more. It was a great night of friends, laughs and great food. I hope to see these guys again soon.

I got home a little after 10pm and was determined to get at least one podcast edited today. So I spent the next 2 hours finishing up my MASH 4077 podcast.

Though I had big plans today for podcasting.. with all the techy issues I only mange to get one done. Oh well I guess it's better then nothing.

The Next Day

Well it's the next day after my fun meeting yesterday and I'm doing better. The person whom blindsided me yesterday was not in the office so it was a nice quiet day here at work. Everything went smooth and I told myself whatever happens.. happens.

When I got home I jumped on LOTRO with my buddy Chris and played the rest of the night. It truly is a great stress reliever and since I'm going to be busy all weekend I won't have a chance to jump on. It's just what I needed.

An admission

I feel like a terrible friend and I can't deal with that thought. Some people can acknowledge that they are a bad friend, and carry on with their lives, but I am not one of those people.

Some of my dearest friends are going through terrible times right now. Whether this is due to mental health issues or heartbreaking circumstances... it doesn't matter. All I know is that my friends are hurting, and that I feel helpless to do anything about it.

So... This post is for you. For my friends that need to hear that there's someone out there that cares about them, and for the strangers that need to know that someone in the world still cares. This one is for you.

However bad you're feeling right now, I want you to acknowledge that this pain won't last forever. That life is like an airport, and this pain is just a terminal that you are stuck at for the present moment, before you fly far away, to greener pastures. Life gives you challenges, it poses you with battles that sometimes you feel are impossible to win, but believe me when I say that there is nothing that you can't handle. You can overcome and achieve anything that you want, but you need to be aware that you don't have to do it alone.

If you ever need help, or advice, I am always here. No judgement, no fear. All I want to do is help you, and if you feel as though I can, then please, just come to me and tell me what's wrong. Even if it is only to vent. Even if it is only to cry. Tell me what you need, and I'll try to help in anyway that I can. Sometimes, people just need a shoulder to cry on, and there's no reason to be ashamed of that. Your soul knows how to fix itself, but your brain keeps getting in the way of its recovery. People have different ways of mourning. People have different experiences with mental health issues. No one way is correct, just as no one way is incorrect. Don't let anyone convince you that you need to do something a certain way to regain normality in your life. It doesn't work like that.

Once you experience something overwhelmingly good or bad, your life is changed in some shape or form... Forever. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Change is good. Evolution is necessary. Learn from your mistakes, armed with the knowledge that life can and will get better, and that your loved ones are willing to prove this to you whenever you feel as though this will never be the case.

I suppose I'll end this with an apology. To all the friends that I have let down in life... To all the people who have sought my help only to be ignored, and to all the people that I have not been able to help at all... I am truly sorry. The last thing that I ever wanted to do was hurt you, or watch you carry on in pain.

I promise to do better. You deserve that much, at least.

Work Woes

Well everything was going great at work when suddenly WHAM!!!! I was blindsided. I won't go into details here but needless to say my future here on this show is in the balance. I'm gonna to do this job as best as I possibly can.  I'm not a quitter, I've only ever quit one job in my entire career. And honestly I don't care if I am let go from this gig.

This brings up how I have been feeling the past three or so years. I'm tired of working in the entertainment industry. There is to much stress and BS and the older I get the more it gets on my nerves. I would get out of it in a heartbeat but it's all I know. I've been in the industry for 18 years and it's taken it's toll. There isn't another job I could jump right into and still make the same amount of money. Lucky for me money isn't everything. I just need a job that will cover my bills. I think once I sell the house and not have a huge mortgage to think about I'll reassess my life and see what I want to be doing for the next 40 years of my life.

Life is funny.. it takes so many twists and turns..

So... You talk to people online?

More years ago that I would care to admit I first mentioned an online friend to my family. It was a simple conversation and at the time it never phased me that anyone would care that the viewpoint I was sharing came from someone I met online. Boy was I wrong, you would have thought that I told them I was dating a serial rapist, or was going to be kidnapped in the night by a mob of men who stalked the internet for young naive women. I am not saying there aren't people out there who are manipulative and do horrible things to people because there are but they are not the norm. I have met many wonderful caring lifelong friends who I have never seen face to face. And some I have never even heard their voice. I was never a mIRC user, but I did have an account with Collegeclub.com. For those that don't know, in the late 1990s and early 2000s Collegeclub was a social website for college students. It had email, a chat server, forums, etc. This is where I was introduced to chat, and online relationships. Most of us also kept in touch with other forms of instant messaging as. With the mask of the internet I was able to share some of my teenage angst and to care for others who were going through rough times in life. We also shared joy, it was a great time. However, I was made to feel by those in "real life" that these relationships were not as valuable as "real" ones. So I started hiding those relationships more. This is probably when I first started separating out the different parts of my life. My online friends and life vs my real world life. If I never mentioned my online friendships I wouldn't have to justify them.
I know I am not the only person to have gone through this, but it now annoys the hell out of me. It is so easy to judge something that they have never experienced. I love The Guild webseries, in the first episode when Codex is speaking to her therapist. Codex has a great line when the therapist asks if she had met them face to face. Codex says: "I hear them it's good enough for the blind". Truly it is enough. Words on a screen or a voice through a speaker is as good as time spent in a room together. In my experience some people are more authentic online when they feel like they can be themselves instead of fitting whatever role they think they have to fill. Society can be so harsh when we don't fit into the defined box. This is a battle we all face, even those people we perceive to have it all together and be completely comfortable have insecurities. Because of my insecurities I feel it necessary to keep parts of me hidden from the rest of the world. I guess it comes down to how much I care what they think. If I am confident in who I am and who my friends are it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of my friendship. It just helps to feel supported and understood. I know I am getting there, eventually I will buy a Alliance hoodie and wear it proudly... well maybe. :). What about you? Do you find it hard to share parts of your life with others? Let me know. King of the jungle!

Dean was recreating the classics today.

Today started off badly, and got progressively better, which is much preferred to the usual start the day off well, and watch it become progressively worse.

The only good thing about the morning was the weather. This picture really, really doesn't do any justice to Aberdeen in the snow.

Basically, the sun was just beginning to rise and everything was covered in a wee 'sieving' of snow.

Sieving was a snow related term that my Mum coined, after having this conversation:
MUM: How's the weather at home?
ME: *looking out the window* It's like... you know when you bake a cake? And you dust a little icing sugar, or flour on top of it, to make it look nice? That's what it looks like here.
MUM: Oooh, a sieving.

College has been unproductive all week, so I went in to class today blaring the 'Rocky' theme-tune, ready to knock the crap out of the huge pile of work that is mounting up in relation to the production of my short film...

First of all, as you can probably guess... little work was completed.

Second? I lied about the 'Rocky' theme-tune. I went into class listening to Fun.

Maybe that's where I was going wrong? Who knows.

Anyway... the day slowly became less and less bearable as the morning stretched on. Most of this anger, hurt and confusion was caused by the timetables for next block.

Basically, the timetables change on Monday. They only went on blackboard on Monday. They were altered today.

On Monday, we were all happy to see that we have two full days at college, and three days free, so we can come in to see lecturers, work on our production or go out to actually film our creative projects.

Now?

We're in Monday 9am to 11am.
We're in Tuesday 9am to 5pm
We're in Thursday 1.30pm to 5pm.

And it's genuinely pathetic. The two full days were perfect. I wouldn't have minded three full days either, if we're being honest. But don't waste people's time by calling them in for two hours. Two hours? Are you actually kidding me.

I'm not the only one angered by this decision.

Dougal wrote a strongly worded, two paged complaint about the changes.

Jim can't learn how to become a dot com picker now.

It's all just a bit of a disaster.

Even worse? We don't have Ryan or Simon as lecturers next block.

Let's just say, we're dreading next block.

Headed to the coffeehouse with Dougal and Sara in the afternoon though, which quickly cheered me up. We managed to score a window seat...

Not wanting to brag or anything, but they're never available, and we just strolled in and took over.
ME: This is the greatest moment of my life.
DOUGAL: You've lived a very sheltered life, haven't you?
Yes.
You're talking to the girl who counts "own a bean bag"
as one of her major aims in life. Are you really
that surprised by this fact?

Just seeing Sara again cheered me right up, love that girl. The fact that it was another LSD coffee trip only boosted my mood even further.

Sara had just went to Lush before meeting us, so she whapped out her happy hippy gel to let me smell it.

It was then I noticed the little made by sticker on it:

ME: Oh my God, Snoop Dogg made this for you.

She was also telling us about her problems with people who shouldn't be emailing her, emailing her.

Sara opens one to show us and "INCREASE YOUR LIBIDO!" pops up.
SARA: They... they don't usually say that.
Dougal grabs the iPhone and looks at the email. Then he only goes and bloody clicks on the photo, which turns out to be a link:
ME: What did you click that for?!
Poor Sara sprays her mocha in fright.

I don't know why I found this so hilarious, but I legitimately cried with laughter. I didn't even know that you could do that in real life. Comedy shows have taken this action for granted man.

Went back to class in the afternoon and Ryan had prepared a movie/sound revision quiz for us, bless him.

Jim and Dean got him a few presents, and a card (for passing his driving test, even though he hasn't just passed his driving test).

They also gave him three DVDs...
  • A tai chi DVD
  • The third film in the Barrytown trilogy, 'The Van'
  • And (my favourite) a Mr Motivator DVD
Dougal, Jim and I were in one team, and Dean, Przemek and Isabella were in another.
RYAN: What is the circle of confusion?
DOUGAL: Is that what the people who come up with our timetables identify themselves as?

The best round was undoubtedly the quotes round however, where teams had to finish off the quote provided and tell Ryan which movie they came from:
RYAN: Okay... Dean's team... "E.T..."
DEAN: "Phone home!"
RYAN: And what movie did it come from?
*Dean's face goes completely blank for a second*
JIM: He looks like when you go to Starbucks and they ask you for your name, and you just take a blank.
DEAN: E.T.!
But the best was yet to come...
RYAN: "I'm king of..."
DEAN: "The jungle!"
*Everyone starts killing themselves laughing*
DEAN: No! No! The world!
RYAN: Yes! What movie did it come from?
DEAN: 'Spiderman'!
I literally can't remember anything after that... I think I might have passed out from laughing so hard.

It's always interesting to see just how dramatically your day can turn around. Life keeps you on your toes like that!

My Lord of the Rings Online MMO Characters

So since I upgraded my LOTRO membership to VIP for the year I get an additional four characters for a total of five. So earlier this week I took the time to create three more characters. I now have four, one for each race.

***************************

My primary character is my Hobbit. Happiest when enjoying a simple life with six square meals a day, hobbits are solid and dependable when called to action.

His name is Drialdo: his nationality is Harfoot, The Harfoots are the most prodigious hole-dwellers and were the first to cross west into Eriador. They generally tend to be browner of skin than the other kindreds, as well as smaller and shorter.

He is a Guardian:  Guardians wear heavy armour and have many defensive skills that allow them to survive battles against the most fearsome foes. Guardians also have skills that draw foes' attention away from their allies and to themselves. In fellowships, a Guardian forces enemies to attack himself, so his more fragile allies will not be harmed by the foes.

The Guardians are the stout protectors of the weak and defenders of those in need, loyal companions to the end. True Guardians stand to the forefront of battle, shielding their allies from enemy assaults.

This class was inspired by the hobbit Samwise Gamgee, whose loyalty to Frodo Baggins knew no bounds.

His skill sets are those of an Explorer, which means he is a Tailor, Prospector and Forester

***************************

My second character I made was my Elf: Long ago, the Elves welcomed the younger races of Middle-earth and allied with them when the need was great, but centuries of war, betrayal, and hardship have made them fiercely protective of their seclusion.

His name is Gillthilion, his nationality is Lórien, You come from Lothlórien, the fabled golden woods whose Elves dwell high in the mallorn-trees and are ruled by Celeborn, wisest of the Eldar of Middle-earth, and the Lady Galadriel.

He is a Lore-Master: Lore-masters are the masters of crowd-control, skills that trap foes and keep them from fighting. They may call on animal companions to fight by their side and even call on elemental forces to damage their foes. In fellowships, a Lore-master concentrates on supporting his allies, primarily by hindering the foe's ability to deal damage.

Lore-masters are seekers of knowledge and the guardians of wisdom. Through study of bygone Ages, they learn ancient secrets that allow them to hinder foes, as well as protect against the dark powers of the Enemy. They have many skills that invoke the natural world of Middle-earth, but it is draining on the will, thus costing them Morale to fuel some of these powerful skills.

This class was inspired by Elrond Halfelven, Elf-lord and Master of Rivendell.

His skill sets are those of a Historian, which means he is a Scholar, Farmer and Weaponsmith

***************************

Third Character I made was my Dwarf: Dwellers of stone and miners of metal, the dwarves are a doughty folk, resistant to the corruption of the Enemy -- but not to greed.

His name is Arikk, his nationality is The Lonely Mountains, You hail from Erebor, the Lonely Mountain, where Smaug the Golden made his lair until Thorin Oakenshield reclaimed it for his people. There does Dáin Ironfoot now rule as King under the Mountain.

He is a Champion: Champions wade into battle swinging their weapons in all directions, dealing significant damage to many foes at once. With each strike their Fervour grows, allowing them to use even more potent skills. Special stances may be used to greatly increase damage dealt at the cost of defence or enhance defence at the cost of damage. In fellowships, a Champion concentrates on engaging as many foes as possible. Unrelenting in battle, Champions are the consummate warriors.

A Champion cares not for his own well-being, but relies on his strength and prowess to slay the Enemy before they can bring more destruction to Middle-earth.

This class is inspired by Gimli son of Glóin, whose skill in arms matched the bow-skills of Legolas.

His skill sets are those of a Armourer, which means he is a Prospector, Metalsmith and Tailor

 ***************************

Fourth Character I made was my Man (well Woman): Not as long-lived as Elves, sturdy as dwarves, or resilient as hobbits, Men are renowned for their courage and resourcefulness.

Her name is Kiwyn, her nationality is Rohan, You are one of the Horse-lords of the Riddermark, the realm granted to Eorl the Young by Cirion, Steward of Gondor, currently ruled by Théoden, son of Thengel.

She is a Captain: Captains are armoured melee fighters and masters of buffing; skills that enhance allies. They may summon a Herald companion to fight by their side, ensuring they always have an ally to buff. They can also Mark foes, giving benefits to all who attack them. In fellowships, a Captain supports his allies with healing and buffs, while still dealing respectable damage.

The Captains of Middle-earth hold the future in their hands. By their own strength of arms and the inspiration they instill in others, they must lead the Free Peoples to victory.

This class is inspired by Eärnur, last King of Gondor, who was revered both as a captain skilled in arms and as a lore-master.

Her skill sets are those of an Armsmen, which means she is a Weaponsmith, Prospector and Woodworker.
