Grims Mini Swap WIP

So I have been spending a whole lot of time playing Warmahordes and doing modifications or conversions on my Trollbloods army.  So my painting time has suffered a bit.  However I did get a bit of time this last little bit to work on this little dude for Scotty.  A classic Warrior of the Abyss from the Mid Nor of Confrontation.

These Rackham figures are so freaking great!  The detail and character in everyone of their miniatures is so awesome! They are my goto cure for painters block, because they are so damn fun to paint!

Here are a couple of WIPs.

Scotty has a rockin' Purple and dead flesh Mid Nor crew.  So I decided I'd do my own little spin on his color scheme.  Hopefully I can do his crew justice.

Short and sweet this time folks.  Any questions or comments, advice, criticism, cookie recipies...
Please throw them in the comments.

Thanks for watching!!

Confrontation: Azahir the insane

Finished this guy up just the other night. Had a lot of fun painting him. At first glance I wasn't too impressed with the sculpt, it being one of the older ones and all. But as is usually the case with these figs, there was a lot more to him than I initially thought.

More after the jump....

I have actually had him partially finished for a while but couldn't figure out what to do with the doll strapped to his face or that dang shield.( I hate shields)
A text to my buddy Grim was the remedy for that. Its always great to bounce problems and ideas off others.

After all is said and done, I'm pretty stoked with how he turned out.

Mid-Nor: Cthonian Larvae

Well, now that the Holidays have calmed down, and life has resumed as normal, I found a few minutes to sling some paint.
Been working on this guy for a little while but held off finishing him at the thought of painting all of those individual eyes. Painting just 2 on a fig is usually bad enough!
In the end, I'm glad I took the time to do it , as I think it adds a whole new level of creepy grossness to an already nasty fig.
Thanks for checking him....it out.

Old school Middy

Finished this guy up the other night. I don't know what it is about these Mid-Nor figs, but i get going on one, and I exclude everything else I'm working on till its done. I guess they are just that fun to paint. I tried a new gloss medium for the blood on this guy and I don't think I like it much. Really gave it a lot of goopyness. Perhaps it will work better if I do a bunch of gore.
After working on this guy I have a new appreciation for Rackhams older sculpts. I thought they were pretty sub-par at first but I am looking forward to another one now.

Incubus of the Despot

Well, this is the guy I had tried some different skin tones on , and I gotta say, I really like how he turned out.
The green was also a bit of a different choice, considering how the rest of the army is usually covered in blood. But these guys are supposed to be poisonous and toxic, so I thought it fitting. I do think I've finally kinda burned out on painting the Mid-Nor figs so much and should be moving onto some other things now.
We will see how long that lasts though, as these beautiful figures always seem to call out my name whilst I am painting something different.

Champion of the Hydra

Finished this guy up over the last few days. I had been really scared to start him for some reason, but once I started gong he came along pretty easily. He came out rather shiny in all the wrong places it seems. I bought a new can of Testors Dullcoat and it doesn't seem to be doing as nice a job as the last batch did, its sorta bumming me out.
Ah well, perhaps after a few more figs it will work itself out.

I also threw in a W.I.P pic of my next middie (yeah, I'm on a kick) who is in fact one of my all time favorite models. I'm trying a different skin tone from what I typically do on these guys, I just hope it is turning out ok.

Pipes of Doom

Well, as promised I finished this guy up last night. I realize the pictures are terrible, but I am in the process of getting a new camera set up.
While I had this guy out for pics, I decide to snap a group pic of my entire Mid-Nor force, since there are a number of things in it that were finished before I started blogging.
I'm really happy with how the army is turning out as a whole. Now I need to get my Demon tower finished some day to counterbalance that Cyclops. ;)

On the Bench

I noticed I have a bunch of work in progress figs at the moment, so I thought it high time I show some behind the scenes progress. Hopefully everything here will be done soon, as it mostly part of a forum painting vow for July.

The Organist of Mid-nor will be the first down followed (hopefully) by the extreme Juggernaut

Nilarakh the evil doer

Finished up this incarnate for my middies the other day. He is the leader from the Warriors of the Abyss box set. He was really a lot of fun to paint, too bad he looks straight at the ground. In hindsight I probably should have put him on an angled piece of rock or something similar so he could be easier seen, but his feet are so tiny I was mighty afraid I would snap his ankles if I tried to tear him out of his base. Ah well, live and learn
I think I'll start work on the older Mid-Nor Organist next.

The final Hydra

This is the last of my 3 Hydra warriors for my Mid-Nors. I'm sad to see them all done but I guess there are many, many more things to move onto. This guy actually had to be converted using a soldier of the plains shield arm. He was originally carrying a sword but I lost it when I moved last may. Ah well, I think I actually like this better, and it gave me a chance to try a freehand Mid-Nor symbol.

Neran joins the ranks.

Heres the first fig of many to be finished in 2011. This guy was not quite as enjoyable to paint as my other middies but still cool nonetheless. A buddy of mine gave me the idea for the striped pants, and I  was really happy with how they came out!

A bit of progress.

Well, here is what I've gotten finished on my Neran the Scary fig so far. I have never really sat down and figured out how to run a Faithful in C3 so there isn't too much point to getting him done other than he's an awesome model. I think I will paint the dolls in a multitude of colors as I have with all of my other Mid-Nors. I do have to find some way to incorporate a fair amount of purple on him though.( the main color for my middy force)
